Elections
Thursday, April 7th, 2011
Hi folks:
Welcome to the electoral campaign period for next year's SOCR board. We're looking at some fine people who are looking to run the organization soon enough, and I want to introduce them all to you.
- President:
- Omar Shahid
Omar has organized and run events for various student groups on campus, during which he demonstrated a strong management skill set. He is extremely interested in making SOCR an active student group, as he feels that it will improve the University's digital presence.
- Chief Executive Officer:
- Matt Renaud
Matt, going into his second year of Computer Science, is a student with an avid interest in open source software and system administration. He has shown an avid interest in getting SOCR off the ground, as both a service and a student group. He is also an honour roll student, and has been named an Outstanding Scholar for his excellent grades and work ethic. He feels that the organization will flourish under his leadership.
- Bilal Shafi
A third year sociology major, Bilal has extensive experience running businesses as the CEO, to which he hopes to bring his experience managing Connex Inc., Shafi Imports Inc., and Geoponics Inc. to SOCR. He also maintains an extensive network with other student groups on campus at the University of Windsor. He intends to use his organizational and time management skills to complete his duties with full effort and efficiency to achieve maximum potential.
- Chief Financial Officer:
- Mohammad Akbar
As the former CFO, Mohammad has experience working with the SOCR financials and budgeting. He has an avid interest in maintaining and keeping this organization alive, and his enthusiasm shows in his work.
- Chief of Public Relations
- Conrad Lukawski
Conrad is going into his second year of Computer Science at the University of Windsor. He is an avid follower of student politics and ethics, as well as the technical side of things. Enthusiastic about SOCR's future, he hopes that he can engender the same energy in the student body as the CPR. Skilled on the technical side of things, he also hopes to provide a better platform and service here on SOCR's web portal.
There you have them. These are the candidates for next year's SOCR board of executives. If you have any questions, comments, queries, criticisms, complaints, please send them to us (don't forget to remove the "n0spam" from our address) and we will hopefully be quick to respond. The actual voting will occur Wednesday, April 13th, from early to late (approximately 8am to 7pm) in the CAW Commons. Come fill out a ballot and do your part to see that SOCR goes in the direction you want it to.
Just a note: the celebratory meeting, post elections, will occur Friday, April 15th, at a convenient time for all those elected. Watch this space, and the next meeting announcement space above, for times and location, both of which will be set prior to the actual meeting. All are welcome!

UWSA Annual General Meeting and call for nominations
Tuesday, March 29th, 2011
Hey folks:
The UWSA's Annual General Meeting is coming up -- specifically, it will be Friday, April 8th, 2011 at 4pm in either the CAW commons or the Ambassador Auditorium on the second floor of the CAW. If enough students attend the Annual General Meeting, and we manage to establish quorum (approximately 240 students), the student body at large can make policy and decisions for the UWSA. As there have been some funding issues between SOCR and the UWSA recently, we can rectify those issues at the AGW with enough student support. So, please come out to the AGW on April 8th and show your support!
Also, a notice: SOCR is holding an open nomination period for all positions on SOCR running from Tuesday, March 29th, 2011 (today) to next Tuesday, April 5th, 2011. An election will be held on the following Wednesday, April 13, after electoral speeches. Time and location are still TBA, so watch this space for news.
Positions available:
- President (must be a 3rd or 4th year student)
- Chief Executive Officer
- Chief Financial Officer
- Secretary
- Chief of Public Relations
To submit your candidacy, email us (remove the "n0spam" from the mail link) with your name, the position you intend to run for, and a brief (200-250 words) description of why you should be considered for the position. This description will be posted on the SOCR website during the campaign period.
